In this section, we outline how to include an
audio file within your item's auction listing.
First, you're going to need a program to allow you to make these audio files.
We recommend using RealProducer; you can download a free copy of RealProducer
Basic by following this link: http://www.realnetworks.com/products/producer/index.html
(the download link is found at the bottom of the page.)
Here's a list of the things you will need to prepare
your audio file:
- Web space to store your file on (available
through either your ISP, a webhosting company, or a free webspace provider
like www.geocities.com)
- A program which allows you to make audio files
(we recommend RealProducer, see the link above)
- A computer (we assume you've got this already)
- A turntable connected to a Pre-amp or Mixer/Stereo
- Audio Cable (may be needed)
Instructions: Hardware Setup
- Make sure that both your record and stylus
are clean.
- Plug in your Turntable and pre-amplifier/mixer
close to your computer
- Find the "Line In" analog input socket of
your computer's soundcard. This is usually at the back of your computer's
hardware box, and should be in the same area as the microphone port.
- Find the "Line Out" analog output socket
of your stereo/pre-amp/mixer and connect this port with your soundcard's
"Line In". You will need a good audio cable to connect your mixer/stereo
to the sound card.
- Follow the instructions below.
Instructions: Using the Sound Software
- Open your audio file recorder application
- Select the option of recording from an External
Media Device.
- Select the Capture Audio option
- Choose a Multi-Rate stream, for a 28k and
56k modem (select both). This way, any user with a 28k or 56k modem or higher
will be able to hear your clip.
- Play your record, and record (save) your
sound sample using the software available to you. We recommend you use a
30 second soundbyte.
- Upload your audio file to the web server
which is hosting it for you.
- Include the URL to the sound clip as an HTML
hyperlink within your item description. You can do this by using the following
HTML tag format:
<A HREF="insert URL here">Insert Link Name Here</A>
For Example, <A HREF="http://www.vinylbid.com">VinylBid</A>
would appear as VinylBid.
