How should I mail a CD jewel case?
The best way to mail a CD jewel case is in a specially-made CD bubble mailer.
These are available at the post office or any stationary supply store.
How should I mail a record?
The best way to mail an LP is with a specially made LP mailer. If you don't
have any, you can make your own by sandwiching the LP between 2 pieces of
corrugated cardboard, then adding another layer of cardboard on both sides,
with the corrugations running perpendicular. Make sure to mark "FRAGILE" and
"DO NOT FOLD" on your mailer with a marker, so that your record does not break
during shipping.
How much will it cost to ship the record
or CD?
Shipping charges depend on weight, distance, and the method of delivery used.
A typical record in an LP mailer weighs about 400-500 g. A typical compact
disc in a CD jewel case within a 6" x 10" bubble mailer weighs 110g.
For quotes on shipping consult your local post office. You can also send it
via a worldwide mail carrier (see below), so be sure to specify
in your auction listing which methods of shipping you are willing to offer
bidders.
Gear
Shipping equipment requires a careful watch for
any potential mishaps that could occur during the shipping process. As a rule,
always offer your bidders the option of insuring their item, as this will protect
you from any possible disputes that could arise as a result of damage.
Some things you will need in order to pack
your equipment:
- Packing tape
- Packing Box
- Bubble wrap or Packing paper
- Packing Peanuts (if available)
- Cushion foam (if available)
- Marker and Labels(if applicable)
Here are some general rules/guidelines you
should bare in mind:
(If your item can be broken down into smaller components, first separate
them.)
- Pour a layer of packing peanuts into the
bottom of the box. Wrap the heaviest components first with bubble wrap or
packing paper and place them in the bottom of the box.
- Wrap additional, lighter components with
bubble wrap or packing paper and separate them from items in the bottom
of the box with cushion foam. Place heavier components on the bottom and
the lighter ones on top.
- Before closing your box, cushion the entire
package using packing peanuts or crumpled packing paper which has been firmly
placed into any unfilled spaces (this will prevent the items from shifting
during shipping).
CAUTION: Underpacked boxes can collapse during shipping, while overpacked
boxes can rupture and cause damage to your item. Always make sure that your
item has been packed properly.
- Close the box and seal it with packing tape.
Make sure that all seams have been properly sealed, and apply extra tape
in those areas that need it. Label the box with its contents and mark "Fragile"
at various places.
