  1. Give a clear, detailed and accurate description of your item. Make sure to include all of the details about the make, model, condition, label, and where applicable, a photograph or audio sample accompanying your written presentation. Also, be sure to mention any defects, problems, etc. if your item has any whatsoever. Inaccurate item descriptions may lead to negative feedback and/or suspensions if you are found to have committed fraud.
  2. Clearly state your shipping terms. Be sure to clearly state your shipping terms, including where you are willing to send the item, what shipping & handling will cost (if you know this in advance), how you will ship the item, and what forms of payment you are willing to accept.
  3. Limit who you accept personal checks from. You can protect yourself from "bouncing" checks by limiting who you accept personal checks from below a certain user rating. For example, you can easily include the statement "will only accept personal checks from members with a feedback rating of 45 or more positives and NO NEGATIVES" in your item description.
  4. Consider registering your mail package. If you are sending your package via regular mail (as opposed to a courier) consider having it registered. This adds protection by providing you with proof that the item was sent to the buyer, and also allows you to track down its whereabouts should a need arise.
  5. Use the right packaging for your item. If you are sending high-priced equipment, make sure to use the right type of packaging to protect it from damage during shipping. As well, if you are sending records, make sure that you pack them properly as they are usually more fragile than CD's. Consult our Packing & Shipping Support section for more details.
  6. Consider using an auction payment service. Various Internet auction services exist which allow buyers to pay sellers by use of a credit card. VinylBid recommends to its members the use of PayPal for auction payments, as they allow for international credit card processing.
  7. Leave appropriate feedback on a Buyer. Be sure to leave accurate feedback on the performance of a buyer after the transaction has completed. By leaving accurate feedback, you help foster good will amongst the members of the community while at the same time helping VinylBid eliminate those members who are dishonest.
  8. If your buyer doesn't pay, follow our policy. In the event that your transaction with a buyer results in a non paying bidder, follow the step-by-step instructions set out in our Non-Paying Bidder Policy. If you correctly follow the steps, you will be able to get back your closing fee while at the same time aid the Security Squad in dealing with the buyer.
